Is your 2017 Your Year to Lose Weight?

This is a good question; is 2017 going to be the year that you lose weight? For many, this is going to the one of the New Year’s Resolutions. Unfortunately, there are people who had this same resolution last year and this year they will be making the same resolution yet again because they did not realize their much-desired goals of losing weight in 2008 as they had resolved. They are not alone. Over 40% of the US population struggles with obesity in one form or another and there are about half a million deaths in the US alone attributed to being overweight. This makes no mention of the hundreds of billions of dollars a year that is lost due to medical costs caused by employees who cannot work because of obesity-related illnesses. But in the recent decades, more people are waking up to the realization that obesity is a problem and have started taking whatever steps are necessary to correct this and get a great lean body starting in 2017. First of all, let us examine why people become obese.

In countries such as the United States, many working people are under tremendous pressure at work, at school and at their homes. This accumulated pressure means people do not have time to watch their diets or even to exercise. A direct result of this situation is to eat out more and that is why fast food restaurants have mushroomed at such an alarming rate. We can practically see fast foods at almost every corner and their mission is to feed the millions who are too busy to go grocery shopping or to cook. While fast food restaurants have vowed to use less trans-fat in their food preparation, and have also been mandated by the government, they nevertheless continue to churn very high calorie diets. It is almost astonishing to learn that some single meals served at fast food joints have enough calories to equal an entire day’s requirement. Then take this figure and consider the fact that many people eat three times a day at fast food restaurants!

Then a lot of people as we have mentioned, do not have time to exercise. This is because of the limitations of time and family. But if these same people are to rid themselves of excess weight, they have to adapt more or less a new mindset. They have to change the way they live.

It may not be easy to shed excess weight and we are not going to pretend that it can take a month or two to get there. But it is not impossible. One of the must dos is to get education. Before you can lose weight, you must first get as much information as possible about nutrition. You must understand which food has more calories and which one are healthy to eat. Then one has to develop an exercise routine and stick with it. All these things require discipline and commitment.

How dieting can affect weight loss

Excess weight is often referred to by the term obesity. This is a condition where the body accumulates more fat than is being processed or burned by the normal metabolism. In many cases, this can be genetic but in most, there is obviously a diet problem that needs to be reconsidered. Obesity is measured in what is called body mass index or BMI according to the fitness and medical circles. BMI is arrived at by dividing weight by height and then squaring the result. A BMI of 25-29kg/m is considered overweight.

Obesity is dangerous. Medical research shows that the chances of a heart attack are exponentially increased the higher the BMI goes. People who are overweight also struggle with a myriad of other complications. For instance, obese people also have to deal with a low self-esteem because the general mass media pushes the image of the slim model as the ideal. Clothes are also had to find and one has to shop at special stores. More problems include sleep irregularities and the risk of a stroke.

How does diet help? Researchers and nutritionists report that there is a correlation between weight loss and dieting. Education is key. Reading the labels when shopping is recommended. There are some foods which have a higher calorie content than others and knowing this will put one in the right track. By education, we also mean that you should familiarize yourself with the food pyramid. You can easily access this at the food pyramid website which is supported by the Food and Drug Administration.

Dieting does not always mean starving yourself. It can mean that you are taking precautions as to what you eat. That means cooking with oils such as olive oil which has healthy fats and does not encourage fat accumulation. Animal fats should be avoided if possible.

How to lose your belly in 2017

Excess belly fat is almost always a byproduct of being overweight since it is very rare to see someone with a belly fat problem that does not also struggle with obesity. Obesity has become one of the deadliest plagues of the 12st century and countries such as the US and the UK have an obesity rate of almost 40%. This translates to hundreds of millions of dollars a year in lost productivity to the economy and hundreds of millions f dollars more in medical costs emanating from obesity-related conditions.

Obesity is a medical term given to a condition where the body accumulates fat to the extent that it becomes a health risk. There are many ways that people accumulate excess fat and thereby belly fat. One of the main reasons for belly fat accumulation is indulging in high calorie diets with the emphasis on fast foods. Fast foods have become very common in the United States because many people do not have time to shop for groceries and prepare their own meals. This is essentially because the socio-economic structure demands a lot in terms of time from the people and when they arrive home, they are too tired to cook. The easier alternative is to frequent a fast food restaurant buy some take-away.

Most of the fast food restaurants fry their food and while they have made an attempt not to use trans- fats, they nevertheless use grease that causes the food to have extremely high calorie and cholesterol levels. Some meals can have up to 3000 calories in one serving which is the entire daily calorie requirement according to the USFDA food pyramid website.

Another reason why people accumulate fat in the belly is because of lack of exercise. When one indulges in high calorie diets and does not engage in corresponding exercises to burn the subsequent fat, then belly fat accumulation is almost always inevitable. There are also those who have genetic issues that cause their bodies to accumulate more fat than is necessary and if these same people are not watchful of their diet and do not exercise adequately then obesity is logical next step. But for many, 2017 is a year where they have determined to lose belly fat and there are certain ways they can do this.

One of the ways is to exercise more. The fast step is to refuse to drive for short distances. The culture of driving even small distances has to stop and people have to learn to walk to the store if that store is located a few blocks from their house. Exercises such as running and walking around their neighborhood can also help immensely. One need not join a gym and spend money. There are also many sports stores that sell exercise machines. Visit these stores and see what exercise machines are necessary to lose belly fat. Another way to lose belly fat is to watch one’s diet and make sure that the food one buys has the right calorie count.

We Have A Better Way

I feel sorry for the person who dreads going to work every day. They live for those two days a week where they can be themselves, don’t have to be around people they don’t like, and don’t have to play office politics. They work 50 weeks just so they can have two weeks of vacation, but most of them don’t even go anywhere. They have stay-cations because they’re overextended, debt-ridden, hate their alarm clock, and spend most of their life in traffic. I feel sorry for those people because there is a better way…they just don’t know it.
