Towards the end of every, one of the great traditions other than gift giving is that many people tell themselves what resolutions they have for the coming year. When it comes to resolutions, people usually begin in an area of their life they feel is an opportunity, that is, something that they would really like to see happen but have been unable to attain that in the previous years. One of the most popular New Year’s resolutions is to lose weight. The reason why this resolution is so popular is because obesity affects almost half of the US population and about 30% of that section of the population is obese enough to be a health risk. Obesity is a condition where the body accumulates so much fat that it is considered a health risk. Almost half a million people lose their lives each year due to obesity issues and billions of dollars are lost by the economy due to workers missing work due to weight issues.

It is perfectly understandable when many people say that losing weight is high on their agenda when it comes to their New Year’s resolution. This is because for them, losing weight has not been easy. One of the reasons why people gain weight is because of diet. Everywhere we go and drive, we see food being advertised on high resolution posters and banners. The TV is also awash with the latest in fast food meals that constantly bombard our senses every now and then. While fast food restaurants have vowed to use less fat when preparing meals, they nevertheless continue to prepare foods that contains a very high calorie diet. Coupled with the fact that many people do not even have time for exercise, obesity becomes a reality.

While we also cannot rule out the fact that many people do gain weight because of genetic issues, it is possible to make a New Year’s resolution to lose weight and attain it. There are a few steps you can take that can help you lose weight in 2017. One of these steps is to educate you regarding nutrition. It is foolhardy to try to lose weight without knowing the foods that contribute to obesity in the first place. You can begin by searching online for the right diets and you will definitely find some that are not only affordable but very healthy. If you do not want to buy packaged diets which can at times be very expensive, you can get knowledge as to which foods to buy and cook.

Another way to make sure you attain your New Year’s resolution of losing weight is to share with someone with whom you are close exactly what you want to achieve,. This person can keep you accountable especially when it comes to diets and exercising. Exercise has to play a crucial role in losing weight. You can begin right at home and spend no more than 30 minutes a day.
